All Africa based organizations working in education (primary, secondary, tertiary education; non-formal and adult education) and combating poverty in an innovative, sustainable and effective way are invited to participate in Pan-African Awards for Entrepreneurship in Education. Teach a Man to Fish is seeking for organizations or projects making great changes in their community. Entries can be made by a non-African NGO on behalf of their local partner/office (in Africa) in a condition that the prize money and conference travel bursaries are claimed by and used for the benefit of Africa-based organization.
Teach a Man to Fish partners with the Saville Foundation to award this prize.
- US$10,000 – Best entry award
- US$5,000 each – Two runner ups
- US$1,000 each – 55 best entries from each African country
- Top three award winners will be offered a sponsored trip to the international conference and peer-learning workshop of Teach a man to fish.
- Media publicity and enhanced sponsorship and donation opportunities are other benefits.
- Applicants can be organizations in any African country focusing on education.
- Applying professionals can be teachers, doctors, lawyers, judges, accountants, bankers, engineers, and police officers.
- Organizations outside Africa can submit entries on behalf of their African partner. The African organization will be beneficiary in this condition.
- Entries must be accompanied by work contact details of a suitable referee. Referees must be independent of entrant organization and either a government official, qualified professional, or senior employee of an internationally recognized institution. Referees cannot be family members of the entrant.

Call for applications:U.S. Department of State grants on International Sports Programming Initiative
Public and private non-profit organisations may submit proposals for exchange projects designed to reach underserved youth and/or their coaches/sport administrators who manage youth sport programmes. These exchanges between the United States and select countries will be either reciprocal or one-way, and will employ sport to address specific themes. Eligible themes are: sport and social change, sport and health and sport and disability.
The SportsUnited: International Sports Programming Initiative uses sport to help underserved youth around the world develop important leadership skills, achieve academic success, promote tolerance and respect for diversity. The focus of all programmes must be on both male and female youth ages 7-17 and/or their coaches/sport administrators. Programmes designed to train elite athletes or coaches are ineligible.

TechWomen is now accepting applications for ‘The 2014 Emerging Leader’ to participate in the program being conducted from early October to early November 2014. Major purpose of TechWoman program is to empower, connect, and support the next generation of women leaders in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) by providing them with the access and opportunity needed to advance their careers, pursue their dreams, and become role models for women and girls in their communities.
Emerging women leaders in all fields of science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) fromAfrica and the Middle East are identified by TechWomen. Women who are rising in their professional careers in STEM fields and who already are – or show promise of being – role models for others in their countries, particularly for women and girls are encouraged to apply for participation in ‘emerging woman leader’ program.
Eligibility Criteria –
- Applicant must be women with a minimum of two years full-time professional experience in the STEM and/or a career requiring significant expertise/knowledge/application of technology.
- Applicant must have a bachelor’s degree/four year university degree or equivalent and must be proficient in written and spoken English.
- Applicant must demonstrate a willingness to participate in exchange programs, welcome opportunities for mentoring and new partnership development, and exhibit confidence and maturity.
- Applicant must be citizens or permanent residents of Algeria, Cameroon, Egypt, Jordan, Kenya, Lebanon, Libya, Morocco, Nigeria, the Palestinian Territories, Rwanda, Sierra Leone, South Africa, Tunisia,Yemen, or Zimbabwe at the time of application, and while participating in the program.
- Applicant must not have applied for an immigrant visa to the United States, or participated in a visa lottery in the past five years; must be able to obtain a U.S. visa; and must not hold U.S. Citizenship or be a U.S. legal permanent resident.
Each emerging leader along with professional mentor from United States will devote four weeks time, four days a week to design a collaborative project based on the Emerging Leader’s learning goals and the expertise of the mentor at mentor’s company prior to US visit for the program. This is named as mentorship project.

The Washington Fellowship is the flagship program of President Obama’s Young African Leaders Initiative. President Obama launched YALI in 2010 to support young African leaders as they spur growth and prosperity, strengthen democratic governance, and enhance peace and security across Africa. The Washington Fellowship, which begins in 2014, will bring 500 young leaders to the United States each year for academic coursework and leadership training and will create unique opportunities in Africa for Fellows to put new skills to practical use in leading organizations, communities, and countries.
The Washington Fellowship includes:
A 6-week Academic and Leadership Institute: Fellows are placed at U.S. colleges and universities for
academic institutes. Institutes will focus on skills development in one of three areas: Business and
Entrepreneurship, Civic Leadership, or Public Management. Institutes will take place from mid-June
to late July 2014.
A Summit with President Obama in Washington, DC: At the conclusion of the academic and
leadership institute, all Fellows will participate in a Presidential Summit. The Summit will take place
in late July 2014.
An optional 8-week U.S. Internship: As part of the Fellowship application, individuals may apply to
receive practical training at a U.S. business, civil society organization, or public agency in the United
States. Approximately 100 Washington Fellows will be selected for U.S.-based internships. The U.S.
internships will take place in August and September 2014.
Activities in Africa: Fellows will have the opportunity for continued networking opportunities,
ongoing professional development, access to seed funding, and community service activities upon
their return home after the Fellowship.
