All Africa based organizations working in education (primary, secondary, tertiary education; non-formal and adult education) and combating poverty in an innovative, sustainable and effective way are invited to participate in Pan-African Awards for Entrepreneurship in Education. Teach a Man to Fish is seeking for organizations or projects making great changes in their community. Entries can be made by a non-African NGO on behalf of their local partner/office (in Africa) in a condition that the prize money and conference travel bursaries are claimed by and used for the benefit of Africa-based organization.

Teach a Man to Fish partners with the Saville Foundation to award this prize.

Prizes

  1. US$10,000 – Best entry award
  2. US$5,000 each – Two runner ups
  3. US$1,000 each – 55 best entries from each African country
  4. Top three award winners will be offered a sponsored trip to the international conference and peer-learning workshop of Teach a man to fish.
  5. Media publicity and enhanced sponsorship and donation opportunities are other benefits.

Call for applications: TechWomen ‘The 2014 Emerging Leader’ Program

TechWomen is now accepting applications for ‘The 2014 Emerging Leader’ to participate in the program being conducted from early October to early November 2014. Major purpose of TechWoman program is to empower, connect, and support the next generation of women leaders in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) by providing them with the access and opportunity needed to advance their careers, pursue their dreams, and become role models for women and girls in their communities.

Emerging women leaders in all fields of science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) fromAfrica and the Middle East are identified by TechWomen. Women who are rising in their professional careers in STEM fields and who already are – or show promise of being – role models for others in their countries, particularly for women and girls are encouraged to apply for participation in ‘emerging woman leader’ program.

Eligibility Criteria –

  • Applicant must be women with a minimum of two years full-time professional experience in the STEM and/or a career requiring significant expertise/knowledge/application of technology.
  • Applicant must have a bachelor’s degree/four year university degree or equivalent and must be proficient in written and spoken English.
  • Applicant must demonstrate a willingness to participate in exchange programs, welcome opportunities for mentoring and new partnership development, and exhibit confidence and maturity.
  • Applicant must be citizens or permanent residents of AlgeriaCameroonEgyptJordanKenya, Lebanon, Libya,  MoroccoNigeria, the Palestinian Territories, RwandaSierra LeoneSouth AfricaTunisia,Yemen, or Zimbabwe at the time of application, and while participating in the program.
  • Applicant must not have applied for an immigrant visa to the United States, or participated in a visa lottery in the past five years; must be able to obtain a U.S. visa; and must not hold U.S. Citizenship or be a U.S. legal permanent resident.

Each emerging leader along with professional mentor from United States will devote four weeks time, four days a week to design a collaborative project based on the Emerging Leader’s learning goals and the expertise of the mentor at mentor’s company prior to US visit for the program. This is named as mentorship project.

The Swedish Institute’s- Young Leaders Visitors Program Open for Applications!

The Young Leaders Visitors Program (YLVP) is an intercultural leadership program that aims to lay a foundation for dialogue, mutual understanding and knowledge sharing among young leaders from the Middle East, North Africa and Sweden.

The YLVP is designed to provide the participants with new skills, networks and innovative tools to strengthen their work to drive social change in their respective contexts. The program combines intercultural leadership training with theory and practice in the fields of transparency, democracy and human rights. Cutting-edge social media solutions are used throughout the program, as tools for learning and for building networks that promote dialogue, knowledge sharing and openness.

The participants are visionaries who are in a position to make a difference and committed to positive change. They are young, open-minded leaders in Algeria, Egypt, Jordan, Lebanon, Morocco, Syria, Tunisia, West Bank-Gaza, Yemen and Sweden who are actively working for democracy and human rights within the spheres of society, culture, politics and media: project managers, youth leaders, government civil servants, youth politicians, lawyers, journalists/bloggers, activists and cultural workers.

During and after the program the participants will be part of an active network that will boost creativity and support their personal and professional development, while also laying the platform for a more connected future. Since the launch of the YLVP in 2008, the program alumni network has grown to comprise more than 100 young leaders. YLVP alumni stay connected and continue to inspire and support each other’s work to promote democracy and human rights.

The Young Leaders Visitors Program is now open for applications. Deadline for submitting applications is April 13, 2012.

Eligibility

  • You are an engaged leader within the spheres of society, culture, politics or media.
  • You are working actively for democracy and human rights.
  • You are between 20-35 years old.
  • You have a good working knowledge of both written and spoken English.
  • You are from Algeria, Egypt, Jordan, Lebanon, Morocco, Syria, Tunisia, West Bank-Gaza, Yemen or Sweden.

Selection process

The Swedish Institute will appoint a selection committee consisting of staff from the Swedish Institute as well as representatives from partner organizations and field experts. The applications will be evaluated according to the following selection criteria:

  • The relevance and quality of personal motivation and commitment, and the applicant’s answers to the YLVP questionnaire.
  • An assessment of the CV and recommendations.
  • The general qualifications of the applicant.

The Swedish Institute will make its decision based on the final selection, taking into account the recommendations of the selection committee as well as the candidates’ general suitability for the program. Out of all applicants, a number of shortlisted candidates will be called for interviews as a second step in the selection process. The interviews will be conducted through Skype (see link in the right-hand menu).

The Swedish Institute will make a list of reserve candidates for a possible second-hand selection. A total of 28 applicants will be selected to attend YLVP 2012. As far as possible, the Swedish Institute will ensure that there is an even distribution of candidates from the different countries.

Please note that all selected participants will have to commit to participate in the full program.

Call for Entries:2012 Zeitgeist ‘Young Minds’ Competition!

The 2012 edition of the Zeitgeist ‘Young Minds’, a competition to find 10 pioneers, change-makers and leaders of tomorrow aged 18 – 24, across Europe, Middle East and Africa* is now open. The winners will take their place alongside the greatest visionaries of today at Google Zeitgeist 2012 near London on May 20th – 22nd 2012.

 

From January 25th until March 19th 2012, the search will be on to find 10 exceptional, motivated and inspiring 18-24 year-olds from across EMEA*, who are making a positive impact in the world through science, the arts, education, innovation or inspiration.

The lucky winners will be invited to participate in Google’s annual Zeitgeist event, where previous speakers have included Archbishop Desmond Tutu, Burberry CEO Angela Ahrendts, Google CEO Larry Pageand Chairman Eric Schmidt. They will also win a brand new Google tech gadget and get the chance to take to the stage and have their voice heard.

Last year saw the first ever ‘Young Minds’ competition in both the UK and America. The lucky finalists won an experience of a lifetime, from meeting Chelsea Clinton and Will I Am, to taking part in panel discussions with Jon Snow and Martha Lane Fox (Co-founder Lastminute.com).

Orli Setton was a winner from 2011 and described attending Zeitgeist as “magical, fantastic and powerful! What I enjoyed most was the innovative, energetic and creative atmosphere.

Cranfield is delighted to announce the launch of the 2012 Scholarships. To celebrate the international spirit of the upcoming Olympics and ensure this can continue to be reflected within our own campus we have created 20 x £12K brand new international scholarships. These will be offered to 20 talented students from all of the world’s 5 continents.

The 2012 Scholarships are made possible thanks to the philanthropic support that the School of Management’s Annual Fund has received over the past year from our alumni.
