Apply! Ashoka Youth Innovations for employment in Africa challenge


Ashoka and The Mastercard Foundation are launching the Future Forward: Youth Innovations for Employment in Africa challenge to find bold new ideas—for youth and by youth—that will address the big picture issues around youth employment in Africa.We’re looking for young people, between the ages of 18-30, from sub-Saharan Africa to join this community and share their solution that is tackling youth employment issues. Top entrants, who submit their solution by November 5, 2014, will be eligible for prizes including an all-expenses-paid trip to the Ashoka Globalizer Summit in South Africa. At this Summit, winners will be connected to other innovators, partners, and investors, in addition to receiving mentorship and training to help their ideas and projects grow

Youth have the potential to build a better future for Africa and solve the staggering rates of unemployment across the continent. Through solutions, youth can equip themselves with the right 21st century tools and skills that will lead to more meaningful, stable and long-term careers.  Through these solutions, African youth can be the leaders and changemakers powering a future that meets the demands of a rapidly evolving workplace. Let’s transform the environments where youth work and cultivate opportunities. Let’s change the way people look at employment in Africa.

How does it work?

By entering this challenge young changemakers will join a community of fellow innovators that are transforming the landscape of youth employment in Africa, shifting avenues between education and employment away from the status quo of yesterday towards marketplace needs of today and tomorrow. Selected entrants will also have the opportunity to receive support to increase their visibility and five top entrants will receive an all-expenses-paid trip to the Ashoka Globalizer Summit in South Africa, where their solutions will be fast-tracked with the help of mentors, business leaders, and potential investors.
